Water. It’s proven to be one of the biggest challenges of our Way Upland trips. I’ve tested multiple solutions, but I’ve been most impressed by the performance of the Katadyn HIker Pro in our latest season.
I’ve used Katadyn water filters in the past and they have always been solid gear. The biggest difference with the Hiker Pro is the field cleanable filter – that’s key in backcountry where water sources have a lot of sediment. On Lake Oahe, the filter picked up enough sediment that the pump no longer worked. I was able to disassemble the screen and filter – no tools required – quickly clean, reassemble and keep the water flowing.
If you take hydration seriously, the HIker Pro is for you — $69.
